The T.R.A.P. Radiation Replacement filter. Designed by NuWater Concepts (Now NuWater USA) to remove radioactive particles from water. It was designed specifically to meet the needs of the people of Japan as they recover from the damage done to nuclear power plants following the devastating earthquake in March.
The T.R.A.P. filter contains a proprietary blend of layered media that work synergistically to remove ions from water. Granulated carbon works effectively on iodine 131, chlorine, and organics while a processed zeolite, which is a microporous arrangement of silica and alumina tetrahedral, is effective for removing cesium-137, strontium-90, radium-226, and ammonia. A final layer of styrene polymer beads works to remove any residual cesium. The result is radioactive-free great tasting water!
The TRAP filter does not require a minimum amount of water pressure. It actually works more effectively under lower pressure, as opposed to the full force of your tap. This ability also lends itself to being adapted for a gravity flow system that doesn't rely on electricity.
The TRAP replacement filter fits easily into our countertop housings in either white plastic, chrome or stainless steel. A diverter attachment makes for an easy transition from filtered water to regular tap water.
Capacity: Manufacturer's recommendations are to replace after 6 months (based on a family use of aprox. 3 gals a day), or when rated capacity expires, whichever comes first.

"The Total Radioisotope Aqua Purifier (TRAP) is a custom cartridge capable of removing radioactive particles from drinking water to deliver a safe, great tasting product. This cartridge is a proprietary blend of layered medias in a single cartridge that works synergistically to remove undesirable ions from water. These medias are commonly used by the nuclear power industry to reduce levels of radioactive contaminants from water whether they are naturally occurring or from decay of man-made nuclear fuels. The cartridge contains pre- and post-filtration contact with purified granular activated carbon. The carbon has a high degree of microporosity which makes it a good media for the absorption of chlorine, iodine-131 and organics. The cartridge also contains a processed zeolite, which is a microporous arrangement of silica and alumina tetrahedral, effective for the remocal of cesium-137, radium-226 and strontium-90. In the final layer, a mixture of styrene polymer beads that have been functionalized to remove ionized contaminants are utilized for the removal of any residual cesium-137, iodine-131 or strontium-90 that may have passed through the initial stages. The isotopes are retained within the filter cartridge, keeping the consumer from ingesting even minute radioactive particles, well below the maxiumum contaminant level (MCL) allowed by the federal EPA. The cartridge media also removes other contaminants including suspended solids, chlorine and organics.
The single step T.R.A.P. cartridge filter can be installed in either a countertop housing or an under-the-counter version.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Water flows over and through several filter medias, designed to remove radiation and a wide range of contaminants. The mechanisms of removal occurring in the cartridge include adsorption, ion exchange, and physical filtration.
